Why your \"perfect plan\" falls apart when life happens

We're human after all...

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to stick to a strict eating plan when life is calm? When everything is in place, the fridge is full of prepared meals, and your mood is steady, you feel in control.

But then life happens.

A stressful work week, a big argument with someone you care about, grief that hits you unexpectedly, or that overwhelming feeling you can’t quite pinpoint.

Suddenly, that “perfect plan” falls apart.

Strict rules might look good on paper, but they ignore our human side. This side carries old wounds, unprocessed emotions, and deep-rooted patterns.

If we don’t address the real reasons we eat or restrict food, no amount of willpower will help us when life gets tough. We revert to old habits, not because we are lazy or undisciplined, but because our bodies naturally seek safety and comfort, even if it’s just for a moment.

I’ve experienced this countless times. When I ignored my emotions and forced myself to follow strict rules, I always felt like a failure. I would start over every Monday, trapped in shame and self-blame.

The real change came when I began to dig deeper:

What need was I trying to meet with that food?

What feeling was I avoiding?

How can I create a safe space to make different choices, rather than just forcing myself?

Sustainable change isn’t about adding more rules or making stricter plans. It’s about building a base of safety, trust, and self-compassion.

If you’re tired of starting over, it might be time to stop battling against your body and start paying attention to it.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. What’s the biggest challenge you face when life gets messy? Reply and let me know.
